Khal Mohammadi rugs are very strong and durable 100% wool rugs renowned for their workmanship, wool quality, and beautiful finish. Most Khal Mohammadi rugs are woven in or around the town of Kunduz in north of Afghanistan.

These particular kinds of rugs tend to be very warm and give off a homely feel.

The primary colours are dark red in different nuances but sometimes they can be in dark blue too. Occurring motifs are göls (elephant like pattern) and octagonal (eight shaped) often with curvilinear flowers in dark blue, ochre and beige.

Khal Mohammadi rug name is unique as it doesnt relate to a city/region as other persian rugs. They are named after the legendary figure “Khal Mohammad” who created the unmistakable design while living in Kunduz (north of Afghanistan). Working with natural dyes Khal Mohammed ended up creating attractive design which is well known today as Khal Mohammadi.
