Pushti is a term that refers to smaller hand-knotted carpets historically used as back rests by the Afghan/Baloch nomadic tribes. The covers used to be filled with wool or straw and put on camel saddles for back support.
Pushti cushion covers are woven with natural dyes that range from dark blue and red to brown and aubergine like shades. They are sometimes decorated with long colourful tassels and shells found in the deserts of southern Afghanistan and now serve as popular decorative accessories in homes around the world.
